Accessibility statement

We want every parent and child to be able to use PleaseSanta, whatever their ability or device.

Our standard

We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA, and to make reasonable adjustments for anyone who needs them, as the Equality Act 2010 expects.

What you can do

  • Use every feature with a keyboard alone, with a clearly visible focus outline.
  • Use a screen reader — the Nornometer™ announces its value as words, and statuses use real buttons and switches.
  • Zoom to 400% or use a 320px-wide screen without content being cut off or needing sideways scrolling.
  • Type a letter to Santa if handwriting or the camera isn’t an option.
  • Add gifts by typing or pasting a link if you can’t use the barcode scanner.
  • Turn off animations with your device’s reduced-motion setting. Falling snow then settles and stays still.
  • Pause the falling snow at any time with the pause button beside it, or turn it on with “Let it snow” if your device asks for reduced motion. Your choice is remembered on that device.
  • Switch on Whiteout (the snowflake button) for a plain white, low-colour view with outlined shapes, either always or on a schedule you choose.
  • Enter the grown-ups’ PIN with on-screen keys or your keyboard’s number keys.

How we test

We test with keyboard-only navigation, NVDA and VoiceOver, browser zoom at 200% and 400%, and automated checks on every release. Colours meet at least 4.5:1 contrast for text and 3:1 for controls.

Known limitations

  • Barcode scanning needs a camera. Adding gifts by link or typing works fully without one.
  • Photos of handwritten letters can’t be read by screen readers unless a grown-up adds a typed version.
  • Payment details are entered in Stripe’s secure form, which Stripe maintains to WCAG 2.1 AA.
